339 Lafayette Street is the spiritual home of the peace movement in New York, and is affectionately known as the PeacePentagon. The War Resisters League, Paper Tiger TV, The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and the Socialist Party USA are current tenants. The PeacePentagon is famously the gathering point and start of a number of peace and protest rallies that started in the 1960’s. The stakeholders of the PeacePentagon funded an international competition to propose a new building for peace on the site. ashton porter proposed to expand and maximize the lettable area of the site and to wrap the new building in a screen of aluminium louvres. The geometry of the screen is derived from the geometry of a Boeing B52 Superfortress and louvres are cut from strips of recycled aircraft skins.

In Spring 2010 the winning projects were exhibited at 5 venues in Manhattan. The ashton porter proposal was exhibited at “McNally Jackson Books” and the “ABC No Rio”.
In February 2010 Andrew Porter lectured on the ashton porter proposal at the “AIA Centre For Architecture”, NYC.
