A development of the low cost “Maison Modele” project for a UK context. The project is located on a brown-field site in the suburbs of London at Hampton Court incorporating twenty individual dwelling units and a communal landscaped facility. A series of shared courtyard spaces are created turfed and are bounded by either housing or protective banking and are situated away from the danger zones of the adjacent road. The boundary wall of each property forms a cranked and sculpted condition that interlocks with its neighbour; at one end it forms a private bar-b-que at the rear and at the other a retaining wall for the lawn banking to the front. On entering each housing unit is another walled element which houses a refuse collection point for easy public access. Each unit is single storey to both maintain identity as landscape and minimise build cost.
